Obama's Green Energy Policy

Now President-elect Barack Obama is ready to take an oath in Washington. Mr. Obama has summarized his top priorities for the environment and energy policy. He plans to create millions of new green jobs, free America from its dependency on foreign oil and help preserve the planet for our children and make the U.S. a leader on climate change. He has revealed his ?green team?, that will deal with environmental and energy policies. He said the development of alternative energy is the key, and is linked to the future of the U.S. economy, national security and curbing global warming.

Obama's green policy is praised by environmental groups. Although they say that the new administration will need to make major policy changes to meet the challenges of global warming and other environmental problems.

The new energy for America plan will provide short-term relief to American families facing pain at the pump, help create five million new green jobs over the next ten years, save more oil within 10 years than currently import from the Middle East and Venezuela combined, ensure 10 percent of our electricity comes from renewable sources by 2012, and 25 percent by 2025 and reduce green house gas emission 80 percent by 2050. To accomplish this, he plans to invest $150 billion over the next 10 years to build a new clean energy economy that relies on wind, solar and geothermal energy. Mr. Obama also wants the auto companies to put one million plug-in hybrid cars that can get up to 150 miles per gallon on the road by 2015.

The state of Ohio is welcoming renewable energy product manufacturers to set up operations for new energy economy. The state is offering extra incentive to promote renewable energy among homeowners. The state government has announced 3.5 million dollars in grants for homeowners who will install solar energy systems to heat their water or small wind power to generate clean electricity. The government officials say renewable energy is working for their communities, business and residents.
