A Bright Future for Solar Energy

The future for solar energy is getting bigger and bigger. Solar energy means energy from the sun, which is free and we get unlimited supply. It is also considered as clean energy, as no air or water pollution is caused by using it. Some scientists still believe that there are some indirect impacts on environment.

There are many ways to use solar energy. We have been using it from a long time, and yet many people do not know about it. Photovoltaic cells used to convert sunlight into electricity uses silicon. The process of making silicon produces some waste materials. There are also large solar thermal farms that generate electricity that can be used for farming, or any other use that required electricity.

As more people are aware of different applications of solar energy, the solar industry is growing day by day. Solar energy can be used on different aspects. It can be used in agriculture or house hold use or commercial use. A greenhouse (which is entirely different from greenhouse gas) converts solar light to heat to be maximized in enhancing the growth of plants and crops. Greenhouses have been around since the Roman times and modern greenhouses were built in Europe in 16th century. Greenhouses are still an important part of horticulture nowadays.

Solar skylights are also being used to maximize the energy released by the sun. It is used to provide natural sun light to any dark area of home or offices. They can reduce lighting-related energy consumption by 25 percent.
Solar energy can also be developed into solar thermal technologies which can be used for water heating, space heating, space cooling and process heat generation. It can also be used to distil water and make salty water drinkable. Currently, there are two million people in developing centuries use SODIS for their daily drinking water needs.
The main way of using and converting solar energy is by using the solar cells or PV. PV has been mainly used to power small and medium-sized things like a calculator powered by a single solar cell. There are homes powered by photovoltaics. Using solar energy for water and space heating is the most widely use application of solar energy, while solar ventilation and solar lighting is also growing in popularity.

Solar cookers concentrate sun's energy and produce very high temperature, that can be use to cook food. It can be used in hot countries to cook food. The food cooked in solar oven taste delicious.

With all the benefits of using solar energy, there is still a downside for this alternative energy source. It does not work during night time. The cost of setting up solar system is expensive, but the benefit of using solar energy when accumulated is so much more. Many governments around the world are giving incentives to promote the use of alternative energy sources.
